This is my take on the February’s ScrawlrBox challenge "Quiet morning" and my thoughts on the provided art supplies.

I have never been good with watercolour and this was no exception. I did however enjoy the challenge - Just me with a cup of tea in the morning, some good tunes and a white, blank paper to fill with whatever artistic crap I could come up with. Check out the speedpaint to see my process.

Supplies in the box

  • Faber Castell Goldfaber Aqua Pencils (12)
  • Faber Castell Water Brush
  • Staedtler Mars Lumograph Pencil
  • Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser
  • Staedtler Metal Single Hole Sharpener

My thoughts on the supplies

Faber Castell Goldfaber Aqua Pencils were very nice. Lots of pigment and various ways to use them.

The Faber Castell Water Brush is quite convenient to use and I like the size of it. It’s easy to fill up and easy to push out water when needed. I do however find it quite difficult to control the amount of water on the brush. It seems like the water sometimes push itself down to the brush, which makes the brush completely soaked.

The Staedtler Mars Lumograph Pencil is pid to me in that sense that it works with water just like the Aqua Pencils.

The Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser does it’s job. I found that it didn’t erase all traces of the Staedtler Mars Lumograph Pencil, but that could be related to the 4B graphite “strength” of the pencil. I find it more difficult to erase graphite with a higher B-value.

The Staedtler Metal Single Hole Sharpener does its job well.
